I have a custom parent object, Clinic, with a custom child object, QSC, related as master-detail. The latter object contains a numeric " QSC score" field and a date field. I'd like to have either a formula field or a field update in the parent Clinic that returns the score field from QSC with the most recent associated date. The purpose is to be able to view the current QSC score for each Clinic record. I've googled and searched on this forum for similar formulas that include most recent dates, but haven't had any success.

I'm also unsure of whether I should create a field update or a formula field, though I am leaning towards an update. Then on the Parent, you can create Formula Fields which would seperate them and show individually. Here is how you will go about it[I am assuming that you want both the Score and the Date ].

Correct me if I am wrong? Deepak Anand That's true. Vimal Desai Bingo! Business Program Thank you everyone for your input thus far. Sorry, but I think I may have been unclear in my question. Deepak, while your solution successfully displays the QSC score per each Clinic record, it does not show the the specific record I am looking for. I think my wording may have led some to believe that I was seeking to have the most recently created, or input, score, when in fact I want to display the score with the most recent associated date that is, the date on which the score was determined field.

So, for an example, lets say Clinic A has three QSC score records, that were entered into the object by User A in this order: one determined on Mayone on Januaryand one on September My goal is for Clinic to have a field that displays the most recent, in time, QSC score. Thank you Deepak for showing me how to structure the field update. What I'm stumped on now is how to structure the formula for the field update. All rights reserved.

How to create a formula field in a parent object that returns a field from a child object?

We are still struggling to find a better solution that can do this in "real time" but I can tell you that Rollup Helper was our main solution. This is a tool available in the AppExchange free version runs every hour or so, paid version can run in real time. Once the info is at the Parent record level copied into that new field with the help of Rollup Helper then you should be able to access it within Process Builder. I hope that helps! If you discover a solution that is free and can run in real time, I would love to know.
